Diamond Audio Stage 3 + MSHDHU14 Installation Guide | 2014+ Road Glide
Stage 2 Installation
Tools needed:
- Panel removal tool
- T25 torx bit
- T27 torx bit
- 3/16 hex bit
- 1/8 hex bit
- Ratchet wrench
- Fender cover
- Heat gun
Disassembly of the outer fairing:
- Remove the speaker grilles from the inner fairing by prying out closest to the handlebars with a plastic panel removal tool.
- Remove the T27 torx bolt located towards the outside of the speaker.
- Remove the T27 torx bolt located at the bottom of the fairing on the outer edge.
- Remove the 3/16 hex bit to remove the screw securing the turn signal.
- Place a cover over the front fender to protect the painted surface.
- Remove the four 1/8 inch bolts that secure the windshield.
- Remove the windshield.
- Remove the fairing vent by pulling straight up to release the retaining clips.
- Disconnect any wiring harness connected to the outer fairing.
- Remove the outer fairing.
Remove the factory speakers:
- Use a T25 torx bit to remove the four screws holding in each speaker.
- Disconnect the 1/8th and 1/4 inch speaker wire connections.
- Using a heat gun, warm the inside of the speaker pod until the interior fins are able to be removed.
Installing your new Diamond Audio 6.5 inch horn speakers:
- Use the provided crossover, connect the 1/4 inch and 1/8th inch spade connector to the 1/4 inch and 1/8th inch prongs on the 6.5 inch speaker.
- Using the bare wire side of the crossover and the provided speaker wire pigtail, twist the red wires together and twist the black wires together.
- Insert the red wires into the red push terminal.
- Insert the black wires into the black push terminal.
- Connect the spade connector on the provided pigtail to the factory wiring from the speaker pod.
- Insert the speaker assembly into the speaker pod, being sure to line up the mounting holes.
- Mount the speaker with the logo upside down.
- Heat up the exterior of the speaker pod to soften the plastic enough to push the speaker into place. In this case we are using the speaker to mold the pod.
- Secure the speaker into the pod with the provided black phillips head screws.
- We recommend starting all four by hand and than carefully tightening down with a screwdriver.
Step 4
If your motorcycle has the factory Boom Audio system or is a CVO do not go any further without reading the steps below:
To locate your BIN code in your factory GT radio do the following:
- Power on your bike to accessory power
- When the "Warning" screen appears on your head unit you're going to cover the mute and power button (lower right hand corner of the screen) with your thumb until the service menu appears - it'll take 5 seconds or so.
- When the service menu appears, you're going to select: Audio --> EQ --> then select the "i" icon for information.
- At this point you'll see something on the screen such as: Current EQ version: 17_OFF.bin Load new EQ?
For this example, you'd load your BIN number as 017 into the Diamond Audio radio following the instructions below.
Before proceeding to the next step below, make sure to hit "No" on the screen.
To locate your BIN code in your factory GTS radio do the following:
- Hold your finger on the power/mute button while turning on ignition
- Hold the power/mute button until the head unit powers up into the service menu - it'll take about 10 seconds.
- When the service menu appears, release your finger
- Press Audio
- Press EQ
- Press the "i" button on the right hand side of the screen
- Then, your current BIN number will be displayed. It will say something like: Current EQ version: 178_OFF.bin. Load new EQ?
For this example, you'd load your BIN number as 178 into the Diamond Audio radio following the instructions below.
Before proceeding to the next step below, make sure to hit "No" on the screen.
Now, when you have your new Diamond MSHD14 plugged into the bike and powered up, do the following:
- Go to the main screen
- Select "Motorcycle Info" icon
- Press the Gear/Settings icon (also known as Setup)
- Press "Vehicle Settings"
- Press "Amp Settings"
- Press "Audio System"
- This is the step you'll enter your BIN number found above. Tap each number the number of times for each number. So, if you wanted the code 178, you'd tap the first box 1 time, the second box 7 times and the third box 8 times. Then, hit okay.
- Then it will ask you to confirm your selection and then select yes.
Removing the factory radio:
- Remove the two T25 torx bit bolts that secure the metal support bracket located on top of the radio.
- Disconnect all connections from the back of the factory radio.
- Depress the tabs to release the connections
- Using a 3/16 inch hex bit, remove the four bolts that secure the factory radio.
- Set these to the side as they will be reused.
- Lift the radio up and towards the front of the bike to remove.
Mounting the amplifier:
- The kit will come with a few mounting options:
- We will provided four velcro squares that can be used to mount the amplifier to the amplifier bracket.
- The kit will come with velcro sheets that can be used.
- You may choose to drill into the mounting plate and secure using screws.
Installing the amplifier mounting plate:
- Remove the four T25 screws from the fairing support plate.
- Place the provided amplifier mounting plate under top of the top plate, being sure to line up the four holes. The lip of the amp bracket will slide over the rear crossbar in the support plate.
- Secure with the four provided nuts and bolts through the mounting holes.
- We recommend starting all four by hand and than tightening down.
Step 7
Installing the MSHDHU14 into your Road Glide:
- Place the radio into the factory location and loosely place the four 3/16 inch bolts
- Install the radio harness that came with you radio to the main factory plug.
- Line up the connector and swivel the rocker until it locks.
- Connect the factory USB to the back of the head unit.
- Connect the factory AM/FM antenna to the back of the radio.
- Install the provided microphone is you would like.
- Insert into the microphone port. We suggest routing the microphone up to the top of the inner fairing so that it can be mounted on the backside of the windshield. (Behind the windshield towards the rider)
- Install the Sirius XM tuner, if selected at checkout
- Install the Sirius XM tuner into the Sirius XM connector on the back of the radio.
- Install the supplied antenna to the tuner and mount the antenna.
Step 8
Installing the MSTLINK harness:
- Insert the male factory connection into the rear of the radio.
- Connect the female main connector to the factory main connector from the motorcycle.
- Use the provided 2 channel RCA's to connect the head unit to the input side of the amp.

- One end of the RCA's has a tag "To Source," connect this end to the RCA's on the back of the head unit.
- Red to Red
- Clear to White
- Connect the other end of the RCA's to the RCA to Molex adapters
- Red to Red
- Clear to Clear
- Repeat the process for both the Front & Rear RCA
- Connect the four pin molex connector with White & Grey wires to the Front Output.
- Connect the four pin molex connector with Purple & Green wires from the rear speaker harness (located in the bag lid kit) to the Rear Output.
- Connect the provided blue remote turn on wire.
- Connect the male bullet connector to the female bullet connector coming from the Diamond Audio head unit.
- Place the other end with the wire ferrule into the REM port on the amplifier and secure using a 2mm allen.
Step 9
Running the power and ground wires:
- For this step you will need to remove the seats and gas tank to expose the wire chase.
- Remove your seat.
- Remove the T40 bolts that secure the ECU plate on top of the battery, disconnect the two connections on the ECU plate.
- Remove the two T40 bolts that secure the front of the gas tank, near the forks.
- Remove the two T40 bolts that secure the bottom of the gas tank by the battery.
- Remove the fuel line by sliding the collar up and than pulling straight down.
- We recommend having a towel handy as a small amount of fuel may drip when the collar is removed.
- Remove the vent lines and lift the gas tank up and off the motorcycle.
- Once the wire chase is exposed, remove the cover by lifting the tabs around the edges.
- Remove the 60 AMP fuse from the inline fuse of the provided power wire.
- Route the power and ground wires in the wire chase.
- The end with wire ferrel will connect to the amplifier.
- The end with ring terminals will connect to the battery.
- Route the wires through the fairing on the Left side (clutch side) and towards the amplifier.
- Place the wire ferrel on the red power wire into the 12V in port on the amplifier and secure the wire ferrule with a 2mm allen wrench.
- Place the wire ferrel on the black ground wire into the Ground port on the amplifier and secure the wire ferrel with a 2mm allen wrench.
- Clean up the wires on the wire chase, you can use a few zip ties to hold everything in place.
- Connect the power wire to the positive battery terminal.
- Connect the ground wire to the negative battery terminal.
- Insert the 60 AMP fuse back into the inline fuse holder.
- Secure any extra power and ground wire.
6x9 Horn Saddlebag Speaker Installation
Tools Needed:
- Cutting tools (Jig Saw, Air Saw, Dremel), Whatever you are comfortable with!
- 1/8th inch drill bit
- 5/16th inch drill bit
- 5/64th inch drill bit
- 3/8th inch drill bit
- Phillips head screw driver
- Painters tape
- T25 Torx driver
Step 1
Remove all components and ensure that you received all the parts needed for the install:
- 6x9 Horn speakers
- Speaker mounting baskets
- Speaker mounting ring
- Wiring for left and right speakers
- Wiring to connect the amplifier to the wiring for the left and right speaker
- Wire keeper covers and hardware
Step 2
Preparing the bag lids for cutting:
- Cover the front 2/3rds of the top of the bag lid with painters tape.
- Be sure to cover the top and sides of the bag lid.
- Grab the cut template from the box and fit the template to the top of the bag.
- The templates are side specific.
- The templates should fit tightly along the front of the bag and sit all the way down to the lip on the bag lid.
- Once you are happy with the fitment you can use some more tape to secure the template.
- Finally secure the template to the bag lid with screws through the two holes in the center of the template.
Repeat the process for the other bag lid.
Step 3
Cutting the bag lids:
- Use a 1/8th inch drill bit to make pilot holes.
- The pilot holes will be placed in the rounded holes in the template.
- We recommend drilling towards the inside of the template.
- Use a 5/16th inch drill to enlarge the pilot holes.
- Use the cutting tool of your choice to cut from hole to hole on the template.
- Do not cut through the template material just yet.
- We recommend cutting tight to the inside of the template. This will leave you extra material if you need to remove more for proper fitment.
- Once you have cut the lines out you can cut the template material between to finish the cut.
- Remove the tape holding down just the template. Leave the tape in place that is on top of the front 3/4th of the bag lid.
- Clean out the plastic trimmings from inside the bag.
Repeat the process for the other bag lid.
Step 4
Checking fitment of the speaker grille:
- Grab the speaker grille from the box and test fit to the outside of the bag lid.
- If the speaker grille is not sitting flush to the bag lid, check for areas that may need trimmer, sanded or both.
- Continue making fine adjustments until the speaker grille fits just right.
- Once you are happy with the fitment, you can remove all of the painters tape.
Repeat the process for the other bag lid.
Step 5
Mounting the speaker grille and brace:
- You will need four of the provided machine screws to mount the grille to the brace.
- Mount the grille on the outside of the bag lid and the brace on the inside.
- Use the machine. screws to attached the inner brace to the speaker grille, we recommend starting them by hand to ensure that all four are lined up before tightening them down.
- Install the speaker mounting ring to the inner speaker brace using four provided 3mm allen head screws.
Repeat the process for the other bag lid.
Step 6
Installing the 6x9 horn speakers:
- Place the 6x9 speaker on the inner brace and line up the four mounting holes.
- Secure the speaker with the provided phillips head screws.
- You can complete this step without removing the bag lid hold down but you can also remove it if you need more space to access the screws toward the rear.
Repeat the process for the other bag lid.
Step 7
Running speaker wires for saddlebag speakers:
- In the bag lid speaker kit is the rear speaker harness. You will need the wire harness with the 4 pin molex connector.
- Attach the 4 pin molex connector the the rear speaker output of your amplifier.
- Run the rear speaker connectors through your fairing and down the wire chase along the spine of the motorcycle.
- Secure with zip ties as needed
Step 8
Routing the wiring for the speakers to the inside of the saddle bags:
- If you have not already done so, remove your saddlebags from the motorcycle.
- In the kit you will find two speaker wire protectors (Silver plates and hardware)
- Find a suitable mounting location and mark the three hole locations with a marker.
- Drill on the three marks with a 5/64th inch or smaller drill bit.
- In the middle of the three holes drill a 3/8th inch hole for the speaker wire.
- Place the speaker wire with the bare wire through the 3/8th inch hole to the inside of the saddlebag.
- Leave enough wire inside the bag to be able to both mount it out of the way and enough to reach the speaker.
- Place the wire protector over the speaker wire and secure with the three small phillips head screws. These only need to be hand tight, so no need to use a power tool.
Repeat the same process for the other saddlebag.
Step 9
Connecting the speaker wires and crossover:
- Use the provided crossover, connect the 1/4 inch and 1/8th inch spade connector to the 1/4 inch and 1/8th inch prongs on the 6x9 speaker.
- Using the bare wire side of the crossover and rear speaker wires, twist the red wires together and twist the black wires together.
- Insert the red wires into the red push terminal.
- Insert the black wires into the black push terminal.
- Mount the crossover to the speaker with the provided velcro.
Repeat the same process for the other saddlebag.
Step 10
Re-install the saddlebags onto the motorcycle:
- Choose a path to route the speaker wire from the bag lids to get them under the seat.
- This path may vary depending on your motorcycle or personal preference.
- Mount the saddlebags back onto your motorcycle. Secure with the locking pins.
- Connect the Left (Clutch side) to the harness with Green and White wires
- Connect the Right (Brake side) to the harness with Red and Black wires.
- Secure any extra or loose wire with zip ties and tuck away any extra wire, as to not interfere with mounting the gas tank or seat.
Step 11
Check the functionality of your Stage 3 + MSHDHU14 bundle:
- Turn the ignition on so that the radio powers on.
- Find a song that will play for at least a few minutes.
- Turn up the volume on your head unit to about 75% of the MAX volume.
- Using a small flathead screwdriver adjust the Front Gain (Front Speakers) until your desired sound level is reached.
- You can make any other EQ settings changes with in the head unit.
Step 12
Replacing the outer fairing:
- Replace the two T25 torx bolts that secure the black support bracket that sits on top of the radio.
- The curve in the piece should face up towards the top of the fairing.
- Replace the outer fairing.
- We recommend using one of the windshield bolts to temporarily hold the outer fairing while you make the other connections.
- Reconnect any wiring harnesses.
- Replace the two 3/16 hex bolts that secure the turn signals.
- Remove the temporary bolt
- Install the fairing vent by pushing it into place.
- Replace the windshield and replace the four 1/8 inch bolts and windshield trim.
- Replace the two T27 torx bolts that secure the lower fairing.
- Replace the two T27 torx bolts located near the speakers.
- Replace the speaker grilles on each side.
