Diamond Audio HXM Stage 3 Bundle Installation Guide

2014-2023 Harley-Davidson Street Glide

Please follow these installation tips when you're ready to install your new Diamond Audio HXM Stage 3 Bundle.

Important: If you selected the HXM Stage 3 Bundle with the Diamond MSHD14 head unit, please review the MSHD14 installation guide before beginning the installation.

Installation Video

Tools Needed

• Fender cover or soft towel
• T25 Torx bit
• T27 Torx bit
• T40 Torx bit
• 5/32" Hex bit
• 2mm Allen wrench
• Plastic panel removal tool
• Small flathead screwdriver
• Zip ties

Stage 2 Front Speaker Installation

Step 1: Remove the Outer Fairing

1. Place a fender cover or soft towel over the front fender to protect the painted surface.
2. Remove the four T27 Torx bolts from the sides of the fairing.
3. There are two bolts on each side of the fairing.
4. The shorter bolt is located lower on the fairing, and the longer bolt is located toward the top.
5. Remove the three T27 Torx bolts from the top of the fairing along the windshield.
6. Leave the center bolt loosely installed to help support the fairing.
7. Remove the windshield.
8. Remove the center bolt.
9. Carefully pull the outer fairing forward.
10. Disconnect the headlight connector.
11. Completely remove the outer fairing and set it aside in a safe place.

Step 2: Remove the Right Speaker Pod

Brake Side

1. Disconnect the power connection from the bottom of the speaker pod.
2. Disconnect the speaker wire connector.
3. Remove the three 7/16" bolts holding the lower inside of the speaker pod in place.
4. These bolts are located near the forks.
5. Using a T25 Torx bit, remove the two bolts attaching the speaker pod to the tray above the radio.
6. Using a 3/16" Allen wrench, remove the three remaining bolts holding the speaker pod to the inner fairing.
7. Carefully remove the speaker pod from the motorcycle.

Step 3: Remove the Left Speaker Pod

Clutch Side

1. Disconnect the speaker wire connector.
2. Remove the three 7/16" bolts holding the lower inside of the speaker pod in place.
3. These bolts are located near the forks.
4. Using a T25 Torx bit, remove the two bolts attaching the speaker pod to the tray above the radio.
5. Using a 3/16" Allen wrench, remove the three remaining bolts holding the speaker pod to the inner fairing.
6. Carefully remove the speaker pod from the motorcycle.

Step 4: Replace the Factory Speaker Grilles

1. Remove the three T25 Torx screws that hold the factory grille in place on each side of the fairing.
2. Install the Diamond Audio grille with the logo positioned toward the bottom.
3. Secure each grille using the original three T25 Torx screws.

Step 5: Install the Diamond Audio 6.5" HXM Speakers with RGB

1. Remove the four T25 screws securing each factory speaker to the speaker pod.
2. Disconnect the wiring harness from the speaker terminals.
3. You may need to gently wiggle the connectors back and forth to release the spade connectors.
4. Connect the 1/4" and 1/8" spade connectors to the matching 1/4" and 1/8" terminals on the new 6.5" HXM speaker.
5. Connect the spade connector on the supplied pigtail to the factory wiring from the speaker pod.
6. Connect the plug from the RGB harness into the RGB port on the speaker.
7. Route the RGB harness wire between the speaker pod and the speaker at the bottom of the speaker, also known as the 6 o'clock position.
8. Place the speaker assembly into the speaker pod and line up the mounting holes.
9. Secure the speaker into the pod using the supplied black Phillips-head screws.
10. Start all four screws by hand before tightening them with a screwdriver.

Tip: Do not overtighten the speaker screws. Tighten them evenly until the speaker is secure.

Step 6: Reinstall the Speaker Pods

1. Place each speaker pod back onto the correct side of the fairing.
2. Route the RGB harness toward the top center of the fairing. This will connect to the RGB controller later in the installation.
3. Reinstall the three 7/16" bolts holding the lower inside of each speaker pod in place.
4. Using a T25 Torx bit, reinstall the two bolts attaching each speaker pod to the tray above the radio.
5. Using a 3/16" Allen wrench, reinstall the three remaining bolts holding each speaker pod to the inner fairing.
6. Reconnect the power connection on the right-side, or brake-side, speaker pod.
7. Reconnect the speaker wire connectors.

Step 7: Install the Amplifier Mounting Plate

1. Remove the four T25 screws from the center top plate located above the radio.
2. Place the supplied amplifier mounting plate over the factory top plate.
3. Line up all four mounting holes.
4. Secure the amplifier mounting plate using the four factory T25 screws that were just removed.
5. Start all four screws by hand before fully tightening them.

Step 8: Install the MSTLINK Harness

Factory Head Unit Installation

1. Insert the MSTLINK male connector into the rear of the radio.
2. Connect the MSTLINK female connector to the motorcycle's factory wiring harness.
3. Connect the 4-pin Molex connector with RCA cables labeled Front Left and Front Right to the amplifier's Front Input.
4. Connect the 4-pin Molex connector with RCA cables labeled Rear Left and Rear Right to the amplifier's Rear Input.
5. Connect the 4-pin Molex connector with White and Gray wires to the amplifier's Front Output.
6. Connect the 4-pin Molex connector with Purple and Green wires to the amplifier's Rear Output.

VOX Turn-On Option

The amplifier can be set to signal-sensing mode. The amplifier may remain on for 30-60 seconds after the motorcycle is turned off.

Remote Turn-On Option

1. Connect the blue wire 2-pin white connector to the matching black factory connector near the clutch-side speaker pod.
2. Connect the larger black connector with the yellow, blue, and black wires to the matching connector on the wiring harness.
3. Connect the wire labeled Accessory+ to the amplifier REM terminal and tighten using a 2mm Allen wrench.

RGB Controller Power Connection

1. Connect the accessory harness that is pre-wired to the RGB controller to the MSTLINK harness.
2. Connect the solid blue wire with the white connector to the clutch-side factory accessory power connector.

Aftermarket Head Unit Installation

1. Insert the MSTLINK male connector into the rear of the radio.
2. Connect the MSTLINK female connector to the motorcycle's factory wiring harness.
3. Use the supplied 2-channel RCA cables to connect the head unit to the input side of the amplifier.
4. One end of the RCA cables is tagged To Source. Connect this end to the RCA outputs on the back of the head unit.
5. Connect Red to Red.
6. Connect Clear to White.
7. Connect the other end of the RCA cables to the RCA-to-Molex adapter.
8. Connect Red to Red.
9. Connect Clear to Clear.
10. Repeat this process for both the Front and Rear RCA connections.
11. Connect the 4-pin Molex connector with White and Gray wires to the amplifier's Front Output.
12. Connect the 4-pin Molex connector with Purple and Green wires to the amplifier's Rear Output.

Remote Turn-On Option

1. Connect the supplied blue remote turn-on wire.
2. Connect the male bullet connector to the female bullet connector coming from the Diamond Audio head unit.
3. Connect the wire labeled Accessory+ to the amplifier REM terminal and tighten using a 2mm Allen wrench.
   

RGB Controller Power Connection

1. Connect the accessory harness that is pre-wired to the RGB controller to the MSTLINK harness.
2. Connect the solid blue wire with the white connector to the clutch-side factory accessory power connector.

Step 9: Mount the Amplifier and RGB Controller

The kit includes a few amplifier mounting options. Choose the method that works best for your installation.

• Use the included Velcro squares to mount the amplifier to the amplifier bracket.
• Use the included Velcro sheets.
• Drill into the mounting plate and secure the amplifier with screws.

1. Mount the amplifier to the amplifier bracket using your preferred mounting method.
2. Use the supplied Velcro strips to mount the RGB controller near the amplifier.
3. Choose a location that allows the outer fairing to be reinstalled without interference.
4. Connect the RGB harness from each fairing speaker to the RGB controller.

Tip: The exact RGB controller mounting location may vary depending on other accessories installed on the motorcycle.

Step 10: Run the Power and Ground Wires

Remove the Seat and Fuel Tank

1. Remove the seat.
2. Remove the T40 bolts securing the ECU plate on top of the battery.
3. Disconnect the two connectors on the ECU plate.
4. Remove the two T40 bolts securing the front of the fuel tank near the forks.
5. Remove the two T40 bolts securing the rear of the fuel tank near the battery.
6. Remove the fuel line by sliding the collar upward, then pulling straight down.
7. Remove the vent lines.
8. Carefully lift the fuel tank up and off the motorcycle.

Tip: Keep a towel nearby because a small amount of fuel may drip when the fuel line is removed.

Route the Power and Ground Wires

1. Once the wire chase is exposed, remove the cover by lifting the tabs around the edges.
2. Remove the 60-amp fuse from the inline fuse holder on the supplied power wire.
3. Route the power and ground wires through the wire chase.
4. The end with the wire ferrules connects to the amplifier.
5. The end with the ring terminals connects to the battery.
6. Route the wires through the fairing on the left side, also known as the clutch side, and toward the amplifier.
7. Insert the wire ferrule on the red power wire into the amplifier's 12V input.
8. Tighten the connection using a 2mm Allen wrench.
9. Insert the wire ferrule on the black ground wire into the amplifier's Ground port.
10. Tighten the connection using a 2mm Allen wrench.
11. Use zip ties to neatly secure the wires in the wire chase.
12. Connect the red power wire to the positive battery terminal.
13. Connect the black ground wire to the negative battery terminal.
14. Reinstall the 60-amp fuse into the inline fuse holder.
15. Secure any extra power and ground wire.

Stage 3 Bag Lid Speaker Installation

Additional Tools Needed

• Cutting tool, such as a jigsaw, air saw, or Dremel
• 1/8" drill bit
• 5/16" drill bit
• 5/64" drill bit
• 3/8" drill bit
• Phillips-head screwdriver
• Painter's tape
• T25 Torx driver

Bag Lid Step 1: Check All Parts

Before cutting or drilling, lay out all components and confirm everything is included.

• 6x9 HXM speakers
• Speaker grilles
• Speaker mounting baskets
• Speaker mounting rings
• Left and right speaker wiring with RGB connections
• Wiring to connect the amplifier to the left and right speaker wiring
• Wire keeper covers and hardware

Bag Lid Step 2: Prepare the Bag Lids for Cutting

1. Cover the front two-thirds of the top of each bag lid with painter's tape.
2. Make sure the top and sides of the bag lid are covered to help protect the painted surface.
3. Place the supplied cut template onto the top of the bag lid.
4. The templates are side-specific, so make sure you are using the correct template for each side.
5. The template should fit tightly along the front of the bag and sit fully down to the lip on the bag lid.
6. Once the template is positioned correctly, use additional tape to hold it in place.
7. Secure the template to the bag lid with screws through the two holes in the center of the template.
8. Repeat this process for the other bag lid.

Bag Lid Step 3: Cut the Bag Lids

1. Use a 1/8" drill bit to make pilot holes in the rounded holes on the template.
2. We recommend drilling toward the inside of the template.
3. Use a 5/16" drill bit to enlarge the pilot holes.
4. Use your preferred cutting tool to cut from hole to hole along the template.
5. Do not cut through the template material yet.
6. Cut tight to the inside of the template. This leaves extra material in case trimming is needed later.
7. Once the main cuts are complete, cut the remaining template material between the openings to finish the cut.
8. Remove only the tape holding down the template.
9. Leave the protective tape on the top of the bag lid until final fitment has been confirmed.
10. Clean all plastic trimmings from inside the bag.
11. Repeat this process for the other bag lid.

Bag Lid Step 4: Test Fit the Speaker Grille

1. Place the speaker grille onto the outside of the bag lid.
2. Check that the speaker grille sits flush against the bag lid.
3. If the grille does not sit flush, check for areas that may need to be trimmed or sanded.
4. Make small adjustments until the speaker grille fits properly.
5. Once you are happy with the fitment, remove all remaining painter's tape.
6. Repeat this process for the other bag lid.

Bag Lid Step 5: Mount the Speaker Grille and Brace

1. Use four of the supplied machine screws to mount the grille to the brace.
2. Place the grille on the outside of the bag lid.
3. Place the brace on the inside of the bag lid.
4. Use the machine screws to attach the inner brace to the speaker grille.
5. Start all four screws by hand before tightening them.
6. Install the speaker mounting ring to the inner speaker brace using the four supplied 3mm Allen-head screws.
7. Repeat this process for the other bag lid.

Bag Lid Step 6: Install the 6x9 HXM Speakers

1. Place the 6x9 HXM speaker onto the inner brace.
2. Line up the four mounting holes.
3. Secure the speaker with the supplied Phillips-head screws.
4. You can complete this step without removing the bag lid hold-down strap.
5. If you need more room to reach the rear screws, the hold-down strap can be removed temporarily.
6. Repeat this process for the other bag lid.

Bag Lid Step 7: Run the Rear Speaker Harness

1. Remove the wire chase cover by releasing the tabs along the edges.
2. Locate the rear speaker harness included with the bag lid speaker kit.
3. You will need the wire harness with the 4-pin Molex connector.
4. Route the rear speaker harness from the saddlebag kit to the amplifier.
5. Connect the 4-pin Molex connector with Green and Purple wires to the amplifier's Rear Output.
6. Run the rear speaker connectors through the fairing and down the wire chase along the spine of the motorcycle.
7. Secure the harness with zip ties as needed.

Bag Lid Step 8: Route the Speaker Wiring into the Saddlebags

1. If you have not already done so, remove both saddlebags from the motorcycle.
2. Locate the two speaker wire protectors included in the kit. These are the silver plates and mounting hardware.
3. Choose a suitable mounting location for the wire protector.
4. Mark the three hole locations with a marker.
5. Drill the three marked holes using a 5/64" drill bit or smaller.
6. Drill a 3/8" hole in the middle of the three smaller holes. This hole is for the speaker wire.
7. Feed the bare wire end of the speaker wire through the 3/8" hole and into the inside of the saddlebag.
8. Leave enough wire inside the bag to reach the speaker and to secure the wire out of the way.
9. Place the wire protector over the speaker wire.
10. Secure the wire protector using the three small Phillips-head screws.
11. Hand-tighten these screws only. A power tool is not needed.
12. Repeat this process for the other saddlebag.

Bag Lid Step 9: Connect the HXM Speaker Wires and RGB Harnesses

1. Connect the 1/4" and 1/8" spade connectors to the matching 1/4" and 1/8" terminals on the 6x9 speaker.
2. Connect the plug from the RGB harness into the RGB port on the speaker.
3. Connect the plug from the RGB harness into the RGB controller for the bag lid speakers.
4. Repeat this process for the other saddlebag.

Bag Lid Step 10: Reinstall the Saddlebags

1. Choose a clean path to route the speaker wire from the bag lids to the area under the seat.
2. The best routing path may vary depending on your motorcycle and personal preference.
3. Reinstall the saddlebags onto the motorcycle.
4. Secure the saddlebags with the locking pins.
5. Connect the left side, also known as the clutch side, to the harness with Green and White wires.
6. Connect the right side, also known as the brake side, to the harness with Red and Black wires.
7. Secure any extra or loose wiring with zip ties.
8. Tuck away extra wire so it does not interfere with reinstalling the fuel tank or seat.

Step 11: Test the HXM Stage 3 Bundle

Set Up the RGB Controller

1. Download the Magic Lantern app from your device's app store.
2. Follow the in-app instructions to pair the RGB controller with your phone.
3. Verify that the front and rear speaker RGB lighting works properly.

Test and Adjust the Audio

1. Turn the ignition on so the radio powers up.
2. Play a song that will continue playing for several minutes.
3. Turn the head unit volume up to about 75% of maximum volume.
4. Using a small flathead screwdriver, adjust the Front Gain until the desired front speaker volume is reached.
5. Repeat the process for the Rear Gain for the bag lid speakers.
6. Make any additional EQ adjustments through the head unit if needed.

Important: Avoid setting the gain too high. If the speakers sound distorted, lower the gain.

Step 12: Reassemble the Motorcycle

1. Organize and secure any loose wires under the seat, in the wire chase, or inside the fairing.
2. Reinstall the bolts that secure the ECU tray.
3. Reconnect the two connectors on top of the ECU tray.
4. Reinstall the wire chase cover.
5. Reinstall the fuel tank.
6. Reinstall the four T40 bolts that secure the fuel tank.
7. Reconnect the fuel tank vent lines.
8. Reconnect the fuel line by pulling the collar back and pushing the fitting back into place.
9. Reinstall the seat.

Step 13: Reinstall the Outer Fairing

1. Reconnect the headlight connector.
2. Place the outer fairing back into position.
3. Temporarily secure the fairing with the center windshield bolt.
4. Reinstall the windshield.
5. Reinstall the three T27 Torx bolts from the top of the fairing.
6. Reinstall the four T27 Torx bolts on the sides of the fairing.
7. There are two bolts on each side of the fairing.
8. The shorter bolt goes in the lower position, and the longer bolt goes toward the top.
9. Remove the fender cover from the front fender.

Final Inspection

• Verify all front and rear speakers are operating properly.
• Verify the RGB lighting works on the fairing speakers and bag lid speakers.
• Confirm the Magic Lantern app pairs with the RGB controller.
• Verify amplifier power, ground, and remote turn-on connections are secure.
• Confirm the front and rear RCA connections are correct.
• Confirm the front and rear speaker output connections are correct.
• Make sure all wiring is secured with zip ties and away from moving parts.
• Check that the fuel tank, seat, saddlebags, windshield, and fairing hardware are fully secured.
• Verify there are no pinched wires before riding.
